peace,
Glad that you brought this question. Previously I have written about the two stories and would like to paste the discussion here. Please carefully read the two stories, they alone can help you see which faith is corrupted by humans. ------ Good that you asked about the story of tree. This alone can serve to prove something big. Lets first talk about Biblical version of this story described in Genesis 2&3. …The Lord God placed the man in the Garden of Eden to tend and watch over it. But the Lord God warned him, "You may freely eat the fruit of every tree in the garden— except the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. If you eat its fruit, you are sure to die." …(God created woman from the rib of man, they both were naked but they felt no shame) The serpent was the shrewdest of all the wild animals the Lord God had made. One day he asked the woman, "Did God really say you must not eat the fruit from any of the trees in the garden?" "Of course we may eat fruit from the trees in the garden," the woman replied. "It's only the fruit from the tree in the middle of the garden that we are not allowed to eat. God said, "You must not eat it or even touch it; if you do, you will die." "You won’t die!" the serpent replied to the woman. "God knows that your eyes will be opened as soon as you eat it, and you will be like God, knowing both good and evil." The woman was convinced. She saw that the tree was beautiful and its fruit looked delicious, and she wanted the wisdom it would give her. So she took some of the fruit and ate it. Then she gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it, too. At that moment their eyes were opened, and they suddenly felt shame at their nakedness. So they sewed fig leaves together to cover themselves. When the cool evening breezes were blowing, the man and his wife heard the Lord God walking about in the garden. So they hid from the Lord God among the trees. Then the Lord God called to the man, "Where are you?" He replied, "I heard you walking in the garden, so I hid. I was afraid because I was naked." "Who told you that you were naked?" the Lord God asked. "Have you eaten from the tree whose fruit I commanded you not to eat?" The man replied, "It was the woman you gave me who gave me the fruit, and I ate it." Then the Lord God asked the woman, "What have you done?" "The serpent deceived me," she replied. "That’s why I ate it." Then the Lord God said to the serpent, "Because you have done this, you are cursed more than all animals, domestic and wild. You will crawl on your belly, groveling in the dust as long as you live. And I will cause hostility between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring. He will strike your head, and you will strike his heel." Then he said to the woman, "I will sharpen the pain of your pregnancy, and in pain you will give birth. And you will desire to control your husband, but he will rule over you." And to the man he said, "Since you listened to your wife and ate from the tree whose fruit I commanded you not to eat, the ground is cursed because of you. All your life you will struggle to scratch a living from it. It will grow thorns and thistles for you, though you will eat of its grains. By the sweat of your brow will you have food to eat until you return to the ground from which you were made. For you were made from dust, and to dust you will return," Then the man—Adam—named his wife Eve, because she would be the mother of all who live. And the Lord God made clothing from animal skins for Adam and his wife. Then the Lord God said, "Look, the human beings have become like us, knowing both good and evil. What if they reach out, take fruit from the tree of life, and eat it? Then they will live forever!" So the Lord God banished them from the Garden of Eden, and he sent Adam out to cultivate the ground from which he had been made. After sending them out, the Lord God stationed mighty cherubim to the east of the Garden of Eden. And he placed a flaming sword that flashed back and forth to guard the way to the tree of life. Some important things to note in this story.
1) tree is of knowledge of good and evil 2) God says if Adam and Eve eat from it they will surely die 3) Serpent said they won't die and they didn't (was God lying then? How did serpent know by the way?) 4) Woman eats first and then gives her husband to eat 5) God doesn't know what Adam and Eve have done, unless he comes for a walk to the garden in the evening and asks Adam where he is. (note that He is God but He doesn't know where Adam is) and he tells him that he is hiding 6) Adam tells him he is naked (God doesn't know) 7) He asks who told Adam that He is naked and asks if he has eaten from the tree (He really doesn't know he did) 8) God curses all of them 9) God curses woman saying that her labor pains are because of curse (what a non-sense, animals feel pain because of the same curse?) 10) There is a tree of life also 11) God is really worried and says "Look, the human beings have become like us, knowing both good and evil. What if they reach out, take fruit from the tree of life, and eat it? Then they will live forever!" (Is this how God became eternal? is this the quality of some tree?) 12) God makes sure no one else eats from the tree of life and becomes like Him Do you think God wrote this fantastic story? Let me tell you that in the true revelation to Moses God did explain the true story but when men wrote bible out of their memories this is what they made of it. They knew it was some kind of a garden where Adam and Eve were put and asked not to eat from a tree which they did because someone deceived them and so they were expelled from it. But look what they made of this. They thought there must have been something special about the tree. It must be tree of knowledge of good and evil which for some reason (which reason?) God didn't want men to have so he said they will die (lied?) if they eat. Serpent (who is this?) was shrewd of all animals (interesting), he told them they wouldn't(he was right). Woman was deceived first, she ate it first and then gave it to her husband (No wonder why woman has been considered mother of evils throughout the Christian history until recently). And because the writers knew that finally Adam and Eve were expelled they thought there must have been another SPECIAL tree which God wanted to protect and it must have been the tree of life, lest they eat from it and become immortal like God (wow). There are many problems in the story but I think I need not point all of them and expect that readers are wise enough to point them out themselves. But another interesting thing is that this sin of Adam and Eve becomes the original sin of man in Christianity which needs blood to be washed away for which God dies in pain to save his chosen lot. I wonder why Christians don't question that if someone did not have knowledge of good and bad (before eating from tree) how could he be blamed for something wrong he did? Can you blame a one year old kid for putting his fingers into the socket? (he doesn't know it is bad for him). And how can someone else be blamed for what Adam did? And how can blood wash of sins? And why would God's blood be required so that He could forgive us? Bunch of corrupted faiths and blasphemy against exalted and absolutely perfect God. Posted by Aurangzeb

From Quranic story we learn that man had the knowledge of good and bad (he was created to be like that) and it is not something in the fruit of a tree which makes him like that. And there is no reason why God would not like men to have knowledge of good and bad (all non-sense).
Why Allah (God) kept man in the garden was to make him realize that Satan is his eternal enemy and would do everything to make him disobey God. It was a demonstration for man to learn a lesson. The order to not eat from a specific tree was given just for a test. Satan made Adam and Eve disobey Allah by having them eat from it (so they had their lesson). Their private parts were kept hidden from them, it was also to teach them a lesson that when Satan makes them disobey God, he would also make them shameless and entice them to indulge in shameless things. Lets read the story. "And O Adam! Dwell you and your wife in the garden, and eat thereof as you both wish, but approach not this tree otherwise you both will be of the Zalimun (unjust and wrong¬doers)." Then Shaitan (Satan) whispered suggestions to them both in order to uncover that which was hidden from them of their private parts (before); he said: "Your Lord did not forbid you this tree save you should become angels or become of the immortals." And he [Shaitan (Satan)] swore by Allah to them both (saying): "Verily, I am one of the sincere well-wishers for you both." So he misled them with deception. Then when they tasted of the tree, that which was hidden from them of their shame (private parts) became manifest to them and they began to stick together the leaves of garden over themselves (in order to cover their shame). And their Lord called out to them (saying): "Did I not forbid you that tree and tell you: Verily, Shaitan (Satan) is an open enemy unto you?" They said: "Our Lord! We have wronged ourselves. If You forgive us not, and bestow not upon us Your Mercy, we shall certainly be of the losers." (Allah) said: "Get down, one of you an enemy to the other. On earth will be a dwelling-place for you and an enjoyment, - for a time." He said: "Therein you shall live, and therein you shall die, and from it you shall be brought out (i.e.resurrected)." Just compare the two stories and ask your heart which one is revealed by God and which is written by men. In Quranic version we find the truth that it was just a demonstration for Adam and Eve to recognize their enemy who would do everything to make them disobey Allah and make them shameless. We also learn that both Adam and Eve was deceived unlike Bible which puts the sole responsibility on poor Eve. Then we are also told that Allah did know everything (unlike Bible where he is portrayed as not knowing anything). Similarly we are told that Adam and Eve ask for forgiveness and Allah forgives them (no non-sense of original sin and blood required to wash it off). Posted by Aurangzeb

wa alaikum assalam,
Thanks for not pasting it here. I have to make a comment about what I pasted above. It was originally written by me in this same group in my discussion with brother Luca. So it does not come into the definition of copying someone else's words and pasting them here. These are all my words and I take their ownership. (just a point) Posted by Aurangzeb

SIMILARITIES IN THE QUR’AN AND THE BIBLE DUE TO COMMON SOURCE
Similarities between the Qur’an and the Bible does not necessarily mean that the former has been copied from the latter. In fact it gives evidence that both of them are based on a common third source; all divine revelations came from the same source - the one universal God. No matter what human changes were introduced into some of these Judeo-Christian and other older religious scriptures that had distorted their originality, there are some areas that have remained free from distortion and thus are common to many religions. It is true that there are some similar parallels between the Qur’an and the Bible but this is not sufficient to accuse Muhummad (pbuh) of compiling or copying from the Bible. The same logic would then also be applicable to teachings of Christianity and Judaism and thus one could wrongly claim that Jesus (pbuh) was not a genuine Prophet (God forbid) and that he simply copied from the Old Testament. The similarities between the two signify a common source that is one true God and the continuation of the basic message of monotheism and not that the later prophets have plagiarised from the previous prophets. If someone copies during an examination he will surely not write in the answer sheet that he has copied from his neighbour or Mr. XYZ. Prophet Muhummad (pbuh) gave due respect and credit to all the previous prophets (pbut). The Qur’an also mentions the various revelations given by Almighty God to different prophets. Posted by UMar

SCIENTIFIC COMPARISON BETWEEN QUR’AN AND BIBLE
If you glance through the Bible and the Qur’an you may find several points which appear to be exactly the same in both of them, but when you analyse them closely, you realise that there is a difference of ‘chalk and cheese’ between them. Only based on historical details it is difficult for someone who is neither conversant with Christianity or Islam to come to a firm decision as to which of the scriptures is true; however if you verify the relevant passages of both the scriptures against scientific knowledge, you will yourself realize the truth.
